Twenty years ago a ‘time capsule’ was buried in the grounds of the school by the History teacher, Mr McNulty. The pupils tried to provide a picture of life at the time, with information on their interests, food, favourite films stars/pop stars/games and items that were important to them.
As part of the 80th Birthday celebrations of the school, this time capsule was unearthed amidst great excitement and expectation. The items were in relatively good condition (although the same could not be said of those who had to dig more than a metre to retrieve it!), and some of those named in the capsule were recognised as still living in Newtownards, and one even having a daughter attending the school at the moment.
A class of Year 10 History pupils are now creating a new time capsule, which will include the previous one, and it will be buried in the grounds, with the hope that it will be retrieved for the school’s 100th birthday!
If you were involved in the first time capsule, and would like to see the various artefacts, please contact the school, as we would be delighted to see what had happened to the class of ’92!
