MOVILLA HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATES 80 YEARS OF EDUCATION IN NEWTOWNARDS
Eighty years is a long time, and the changes that have occurred in the last eighty are significant – think of air travel, ATM machines, mobile phones and computers to name a few. In 1932 Movilla National School opened as a 5 – 14 year school, and there are still many people in the community who came, and left under that system. It then became a High School catering for 11 – 18 years. The school is immensely proud of the achievements and significant contributions that these pupils have made to the communities in which they have lived, particularly Newtownards.
There are going to be a number of events to celebrate those 80 years, and everyone is most welcome to attend, with information available at the school office on 91812079. They include:
- A fashion show of more than 150 items on Friday 16 March 2012
- A music concert with items from past and present pupils on Thursday 28 March 2012
- A Spring Ball at Stormont on Saturday 28 April 2012.
On the Monday 2 April 2012 there will be a morning tea for past governors and staff, and ALL past pupils are warmly invited at 11.30 to meet former staff and pupils.
Coupled to this is an exhibition, in the school, of photographs and other memorabilia which will be open to the public from 11.30 am – 5 pm on the 2 April, from 10 am until 8 pm on Tuesday 3 April and from 10 am until 4 pm on Wednesday 4 April 2012.
If there are items that would be of interest for the exhibition please contact the school so that they can be included. These may be photographs, items of uniform, cups, awards, newspaper cuttings etc.
The school looks forward to welcoming as many as possible to celebrate and enjoy these activities with them.
